With Trevor’s birthday coming up, we’ve been mulling over ideas on what he wants. And while at the Stoke Swap, we realized the perfect gift was right there. Trevor wanted to shape his own surfboard and the Blue Room provided the space, the time, and the help :)
So, today we took a field trip to Fiberglass Hawaii to pick up some blanks.
Trevor picked a 5’10” (blue) blank.
Two Crows had a couple boards ready for pick up.
Back at the Blue Room, Mitch (master shaper) and T (apprentice) picked out a template and chalked it on the floor to check out the length and width.
After outlining the template, T’s board was ready to be cut.
I sat outside and took photos while Trevor practiced with the planer on a damaged blank (also known as a second).
After a few passes, he went to work on his board.
They stepped out to check out a newer board’s rocker and then went back in.
The beer bottle allows you shape with a round edge more effectively. Creative ;)
Day One down.
Before. And after.
